On the morning of December 7th, the annual Golden Pin Design Award 2017 Forum takes place at the spectacular Eslite Spectrum Performance Hall in Taipei’s historic Songshan Cultural & Creative Park.
The star-studded 2017 Forum features talks from five esteemed luminaries of the international design industry, hosted by the famous Taiwanese television anchor, Lulu Hsia, and executed by Taiwan Design Center on behalf of the Golden Pin Design Award Group.
Founders and directors of multinational design agencies discuss their perspectives on the world of design; Kazuo Tanaka of GK Design Group, Martin Darbyshire of tangerine, Rossana Hu of Neri&Hu, Kristof Crolla of LEAD, and Keng-Ming Liu of Bito Studio.
“The Golden Pin Design Award stands out is in the geographical area where it attracts most of its submissions from,” says Kristof Crolla. “It is very Taiwan-, China-, Hong Kong- heavy. There are a few big, international brands also present here, but those tend not to stand out too much. It feels like the award is actively trying to seek out a local identity, and that is very interesting.”
The Golden Pin Design Award Group — Golden Pin Design Award and Golden Pin Concept Design Award — is the only competition in the world that celebrates design created for and within huaren (Chinese-speaking) communities. Since 2014, the Golden Pin Design Award Forum continually aims to deepen discussion and public understanding of huaren design.
The Golden Pin Design Award 2017 Forum will be held from 9am to 12.20pm on December 7th. Simultaneous translation is available in English, Japanese, and Chinese. Audience members are encouraged to arrive at the venue – Eslite Spectrum Performance Hall, Taipei – between 8.30am and 9am. Entry is free, RSVP only.
Also, attendees can visit the Taiwan Design Museum where the Golden Pin Design Award 2017 Winners’ Exhibition (NT$80 entry fee, tickets available at the Design Pin store in TDM) features selected Design Mark winners. The Golden Pin Design Award 2017 Grand Ceremony is in the evening, announcing this year’s Best Design winners, and will be live streamed via the Golden Pin Design Award Facebook page.
