The final selection for the 2019 Golden Pin Design Award took place at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park today on September 23. This year, 10 design heavyweights and creative masterminds from around the world served as the judges, including World Design Organization (WDO) President Luisa Bocchietto, huaren designer Tony Chi, Japanese designer duo SPREAD, Ogilvy Taiwan CCO Jennifer Hu, Compal Electronics VP of Experience Design Shikuan Chen, Professor Emeritus Cheng-Neng Kuan (Department of Industrial Design, Shih Chien University), Chinese Society of Interior Designers Chairman Shu-chang Kung, Taiwan Design Alliance Chairman Pan-Sung Lin, and Professor Ching-yueh Roan (Department of Art and Design, Yuan Ze University). A total of 624 Design Mark recipients are contending for the Best Design of Golden Pin Design Award. Stay tuned as the winner gets crowned at the award ceremony on December 5.
Ten judges from different fields of design examined eligible works one by one. After a day of rigorous judging, many heated discussions, and a close vote, a consensus was finally reached. WDO President Luisa Bocchietto observed that an increasing number of submissions demonstrated sustainable thinking, something that more designers and companies should take note of. According to Bocchietto, designs with attention to detail, use of natural materials, and a connection to the local culture are the ones that caught her eye.
This year, with a record high of 3,091 entries and 1,471 participants vying for the grand prize, 624 entries in total came out on top at the oversea (in August) and Taiwan (September 19th) secondary selection events; they were awarded the Design Mark.
The final selection judging is now complete. The finalists will be announced in early October on Golden Pin Design Award’s official website. Who will be the winner? We shall see at the award ceremony on December 5th!
