It is a 16 m2 space, cut into a multi-sided bevel, The bar is designed as a castoring triangle to correspond to the axes of the front door, the shelves behind the bar is gradiently arranged, the capability of creating spaces within space is achieved by the meticulous spirit of craftsmanship.
We build a dreamland in the real world. The design materializes this sense of well-being. The tastes transmit to the bodily sensations. The dream has just begun as people wrapped in honey and sugar.
The illusionary and yet existent balloons are floating, flying unicorn running above the head, and the dense white flowers extend from the ceiling, like the alpine flowers growing on the cliff, weaving together a sense of surreal setting.
Phoenix has been a beautiful and noble god bird since ancient times. When there is a phoenix, the theme of the phoenix is a symbol of mysterious and noble courtesy. The atmosphere of the space is calm, and the delicate screen partition is used to create a sense of hierarchy and ritual, creating a symmetrical order.
The design concept of Simple Kaffa (the shop was once selected No.1 in “The Best Coffee Shops In The World”) is based around the image of the forest and the endless treasures it contains. The design features of the interior all echo the forest concept, from real tree bark, green serpentine marble to cedar wood. To accentuate the texture of the old building, two atriums were opened up at the front and rear to create visual layering in the physical space.
【 vortex@EMBERS 】Starts from Taiwan’s mountains, and goes from Taiwan’s forestry.
Uses domestic cedar to tell about Taiwan’s sustainable economic forestry and timber industry, and hands-on builds a nest in the EMBERS restaurant. The spirit of EMBERS presents the chef’s cooking context, and the designer-maker uses high-temperature steam to bend the core bar of the cedar, like in the space directly cooks a dish of the hand-made bentwood craft.
The hotel is inspired by the wine hiding cave (namely a cave used to store liquor), whose cultural and visual connections extend the concept of cave and local urban texture to the interior of the hotel, creating a hazy, mysterious and massive beauty and meanwhile forming a unique cultural carrier.
Art appears as an idea and means of design. We adopted this method to omit all things except for space and art, for they overpower everything else, and the temperament of space, and the field that people could feel are both guided by art.
Art is the solidification of spirit and emotions. It boosts the energy of art in the living space and brings broader and more diverse spiritual experiences, thus eventually opening another window for the final design experience.
Film directors have used megaphones to communicate with their cast and crew on sets where it was hard to hear. The megaphone became an iconic clichéd symbol of a movie director. The designers were inspired by these cone-shaped object and have thus developed various functional objects that are placed within the interior to echo with the ‘megaphone’ theme, e.g. seatings at the arrival lobby, light features in the auditorium and washbasins in the washroom.
The colors originate from the contrasting nature of colors in negative film; film – the cinematic connection. The idea incorporates family friendly and fully functional playground inspired design. Children & adults are encouraged to come and interact with and have fun in this playground before and after the movies.
The design was inspired by the complementary colours used in negative film. We came up with this design concept also because of the low budget. This way we can rely on the colour contrast which won’t necessarily require expensive materials, yet still can create strong visual impact. The lobby red and white meant to be a Georges Rousse-style optical illusion when looked at from a certain angle. This is especially difficult to achieve for our project because so much coordination is involved.
