Typography originated in the west, so how can it be applied to Chinese characters? In circle, a graphic design zine, Emil Ruder’s classic text “Typographie” is decoded and applied to Chinese typography. How should layouts be composed? How should negative space be arranged? What are the cross-language visual principles? This special edition of the zine began a Chinese character typography experiment to discover even more visual possibilities. And it turns out that typography can be applied to Chinese characters after all!
