ELBOW is a portable cassette player reduced to its core. Despite the dominance of cheap and convenient digital media, physical audio formats – first vinyl, and now the cassette tape – are making a big comeback. However, the cassette player market has not seen any major innovation since the original Walkman. In the pursuit of more convenient and functional technology, something was lost – the simplicity and joy of tactile interaction, which is an essential part of human experience. By exposing the cassette to the elements, ELBOW offers a fresh user experience, allowing listeners to directly appreciate the tape motion, or even forcibly interrupt playback.
