Between 2016 and 2018, photographer Xiao Quan traveled three times to Jinchuan to take photos. The resulting book, “Xiaoquan Jinchuan,” breaks with the catalog presentation style of traditional photography books.
“Permanent Imprint – the Manuscripts of World Celebrities” was designed around the manuscript contents of 32 of the world’s most prominent writers. The book can be opened from both the left and right sides, separating it into left and right books. The left book has the original manuscripts and the right book has annotations of the manuscripts in Chinese and English. The two can be compared and consulted starting from the table of contents. The cover features a dark blue design, expressing the wisdom and serenity of literati. The signatures on the cover are embossed to match with the idea of “forever scars” having “marks that never fade away.”
“Walking the Path to Eternal Fragrance” is a book about the art of plants. The entire book, from the linen cover to the internal pages and typesetting, has painted by hand as the core concept. Every part therefore manifests the primitive and rustic heart of the craftsmen.
Life is like summer blossoms; poems are like sinking red clouds. One side of “Facing the Sea with Spring Blossoms” contains the poems of Hai Zi and the other side has Wei Erqiao’s paintings; one side is a homage to life and the other side is a meditation on death.
“The Ju’s Recipes of Huaiyang Cuisine” is the recipe book of Huaiyang cuisine master Ju Changlong. The cover is bright red, as red is the color that ignites the appetite.

The meaning of “To Love” Chocolate is perfectly illustrated in the handwritten Huakang font. The chocolate blocks are designed in the form of lead letter typesetting blocks to symbolize the action of writing a Valentine’s Day love letter.
The Three Leafs “3” motif is formed by the joining of three leaves. The delicate, supple appearance of the leaves in the motif suggests that quality of the tea leaves inside. Tiny, stem-like details adorn the motif, adding to the impression.
The stuffing traditionally used for Chinese wedding cake is transformed to make Western cookies. The round shape of Chinese wedding cake and the outer box are also adopted to connect the old and the new together.
