During Beijing Design Week we designed a series of workshops based around Sino-Dutch cultural exchange together with Embassy of the Netherlands. Inspiration for the design are airline luggage tags. With their typical spacing and neon green stripes. With subtle hints in the design we refer to these tags. The paper feels rough and casual. The pages are folded together. All of this reflects an informal atmosphere (typical for Dutch official meetings) in which inter-cultural dialogue can take place.
The design accentuates the elegance in such a tradition.
The focus in the redesign is to minimize expendable elements in the packaging. The red string and exposed spine of the book took inspiration from traditional scripts.
Additionally, the exposed spine also allows for the the book to open all the way flat,
allowing the book to be read at maximum comfort.
