Taipei Film Festival is the most influential showcase of international cinema for local film distributors in Taiwan, with screenings about 160 innovative films from over 40 different countries. The majority of its approximately 100,000 attendants each year is made up of a decidedly young audience. As the festival grows into its 17th year, the committee has decided that a new visual identity is necessary to help convey its vision.
The task was to design a logo family representing not only the film festival itself, but also Taipei Film Awards and International New Talent Competition, two major competitions for local and international filmmakers.
As one of the leading Film Festivals in Taiwan, it has been using butterfly as its graphic ambassador, which represents the new film generation and unique beauty of Taiwan. Our new butterfly symbol consists of a screening perspective, film strip, and the Chinese Character “北(pei)” to enhance the visibility of Taipei City. A set of butterflies in different perspectives are also created as secondary graphic system.
The symbols for Taipei Film Awards and International New Talent Competition are butterflies in take-off and full-speed flight, each suggesting a leap forward after hardworking and fierce competition.
Considering the festival takes place in every summer season, cool color palettes have been brought into discussion. A shade of sea green, inspired by the intersection of mountain and sea of Taiwan, has been chosen for this year’s festival.
