Taiwan’s Golden Pin Design Award 2019 call for entries is now open. The award is a golden opportunity for companies, design teams, and individuals from all around the globe to demonstrate design excellence in Taiwan, Asia, and beyond. The early bird entry deadline is April 30 and the general entry deadline is June 27. Entries can be submitted online via the official Golden Pin Design Award website.
Judging is split into four categories — product design, communication design, spatial design, and integration design which is a new category for projects that integrate multiple design disciplines including professional curation, service design, and more. Last year’s winners include the likes of Hong Kong-based designers XCEPT and Dimension Plus, who both won Best Design in the integration design category. The international judges at last year’s final selection were Edmond Bakos (Managing Director of CHAMPALIMAUD Design — USA), Ad van Berlo (Founder of VanBerlo — Netherlands), Kashiwa Sato (Creative Director of SAMURAI Inc. — Japan), and Chris Lee (Founder and Creative Director of Asylum — Singapore).
The first round of judging takes place in mid-July, the second and third rounds in August and September, and the award ceremony will be held in Taipei on December 5, 2019. The Design Mark winners will be announced after secondary selection in September, and the Best Design trophies are to be awarded at the ceremony. The price of entry is just USD$55 before the early bird deadline, or USD$70 during the general period. And unlike some other international design awards, there are no additional charges for secondary and final judging.
Golden Pin Concept Design Award
For those who have not yet brought their designs to market, the Golden Pin Concept Design Award 2019 call for entries is now open. Emerging designers and design teams from all around the globe are invited to submit their concepts before June 20. The award boasts a TWD$1,200,000 (approx. USD$39,000) prize fund, which will be presented to the Best Design winners at the award ceremony on December 5, 2019.
Judging is split into the same four categories as in the Golden Pin Design Award and also follows the same schedule throughout the year. However, the Golden Pin Concept Design Award only accepts design projects that are in the concept phase; not yet commercialized or manufactured. The emphasis is on emerging designers with projects that aim to make a positive impact on society, as well as those which utilize advanced technology.
Entry is completely free-of-charge and all designers’ intellectual property rights are protected. By entering the Golden Pin Concept Design Award, emerging designers have a chance to take their career to the next level and perhaps bring their concepts to market. The generous cash prize is to help the winning designers advance their concepts, while the Best Design trophy is a hallmark of design excellence.
