The exhibition is part of the marketing campaign for the second season of “Island of Mountain: Believe it or not. This is Taiwan!”, a documentary show on Public Television Service. The show follows mountaineers in the mountains, listen to their life stories, and explore personal and social meanings in mountaineering. The exhibition highlights core concepts in the show, and deliver enriching experiences with XR, documents, and talks. The space is divided into XR experience, main exhibition, and event areas with the visual background and firwood boards. At the entrance, six signature mountain ridges in Taiwan overlap with multiple layers of thin black fabrics, and portray “Island of Mountain” idea with silhouette. We utilize existing wooden beams in the space, and divide spaces with light black curtains, so viewers can walk between mountains. In the process, viewers read publications by mountaineers, listen to original music, watch interview videos. These life stories underline how much they want to be in the mountains, and contemplate on what mountaineering means to individuals. Mountains are ready for those prepared. In order to present what mountaineers need to prepare physically, mentally, and technically, the exhibition displays images, objects, and actual equipment on an intimate but marvelous wall. The last stop reviews mountaineering history in Taiwan, and how relationships between people and mountains evolve over time. It invites viewers to learn more about this island of mountains, and about themselves as well.
