Since its opening in 1983, the Hualien County Cultural Bureau Art Museum has organized over a thousand exhibition events in the span of 38 years. In response to the demands of the current era, the Cultural Bureau initiated a large-scale renovation of the art museum in December 2021, with an estimated completion by the end of this year (2022). The new art museum will provide a fresh exhibition space for artists and creators, creating a refreshing environment for the public, allowing them to fully appreciate the beauty of art in a comfortable setting.

The team began by analyzing the broader environment and gradually formulated an execution strategy. They carefully considered the perspectives of visitors and aimed to define a contemporary aesthetic unique to Hualien. Ultimately, the concept of a "seaside art museum" was established as the core theme. This not only complements the local geography and cultural heritage but also highlights the distinctive positioning of the Hualien Art Museum, setting it apart from other official art institutions.
