In 2019, the Alumni Association and the University Board inaugurated the ground floor of the Guest House, which had long been in disrepair, as the Gallery of Tamkung History, while the second floor became the Founder’s Memorial Hall. A barrier-free elevator was also added to create a more inclusive and accessible environment. The white appearance of the original structure was kept as an ode to the Tamsui Campus buildings' signature palette. Not only does it lend a neutral tone of serenity, but the color also honors the memories of alumni across many decades. Surrounded by trees and facing a downward slope, the renovated building is now cloaked with mirror-polished stainless steel. This choice of the humble material was made after designer carefully studied how it would best reflect the nearby sun-kissed greenery while the interaction between building and sunshine is also subtly considered. To create a more desirable flow of space based on the exhibit categories, the main entrance/exit on the ground floor was moved to the building's outermost edge, where the garage was originally located. The exterior's stainless steel glossy finish, engraved with the university motto, acts as the prologue to the narrative of the space. It extends down to where the low-level garage once existed, and the campus' borrowed scenery ("shakkei") of the semi-outdoor verdant path is reflected onto the mirror-like façade. In addition to the linear timeline, space and people also play key roles in history-making. Here, the configuration of space and flow presents history as a constant conversation between the present and the past, as well as a declaration of the future.
